Like others, after reading the sad news of Michael’s passing, I unearthed the archived hand-written notes he had sent thanking me for past Balisage talks. I was reminded of Michael’s insightfulness, thoughtfulness, and how eager he was to learn from others. Knowing that he thought my ideas mattered was an ego boost for me. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better.” Michael was an intellectual giant who found joy in his many experiments and was delighted to learn from the experiments of others. Micheal left us far too soon, but his life was well-lived. May his memory be a blessing to his family and us all.
