Balisage Paper: The STS (and soon JATS) Legend Element

Abstract
Balisage 2024 included a short-subject Open Microphone
session, during which conference attendees were invited give 2-10 minute presentations
on any topic relevant to the conference, including specification updates, new tool
announcements, and demonstrations.
This short presentation showcased the NISO STS <legend> element, for use in tables, chemical formulae, charts, and related objects. Similar
elements in other schemas were discussed, with examples highlighting the complexity
of tagging legends. An update on JATS’ inclusion of the STS <legend> element, with modifications to the STS model followed.
