<citation> Citation Reference
A citation to an external source, either informal (inline) or by means of a
cross-reference (to a <bibliomixed> element).
Usage/Remarks
Best Practice
The preferred way to make a reference to a citation in the bibliography is with an
ordinary <xref> element. The <citation> element is included in this Tag Set so citations can be made
in line (i.e., without a target in the bibliography) though it can be used for the
same
purpose as <xref>.
If a cross-reference is wanted, use the @linkend
attribute. If this attribute is present, the text contents of the <citation> are ignored and the text displayed is from the target
<bibliomixed> element (its @xreflabel, if present). If no @linkend is
given, no reference to the bibliography is made, and the content of the <citation> is displayed.
If neither contents nor a @linkend is given, expect a warning flag in the output.
